Dr Nina Wootton Awarded 2025 Max Day Environmental Science Fellowship Award

Congratulations to Environment Institute member Dr Nina Wootton who was presented with 2025 Max Day Environmental Science Fellowship Award, by the Australian Academy of Science.
Named in honour of the Dr Maxwell Frank Cooper Day AO FAA, who held strong beliefs towards interdisciplinary approach to research, this award provides funding to early career researchers.
Dr Wootton was recognised for her project 鈥淧lastic to Plate?鈥, which investigates microplastic pollution in traditional food sources like fish, mussels, mud crabs, and turtles in North-East Arnhem Land. By combining ecological and social sciences and working closely with Yol艐u Traditional Owners, her research aims to close critical knowledge gaps and offer practical solutions to protect Indigenous food sources, ecosystems, and human health.
鈥淚 am incredibly grateful and humbled to receive the 2025 Max Day Environmental Science Fellowship Award. Being recognised with such a prestigious award is a career highlight, and I deeply appreciate the generous donors who make this work possible,鈥 Dr Wootton said.
She goes on to share that this award will not only support her current project, but provide new pathways for future initiatives in interdisciplinary research.
鈥淎s an early career researcher, securing funding for meaningful projects can be challenging, so I鈥檓 especially thankful for this opportunity.鈥
