WELCOME TO KUAJOK COMMUNITY COLLEGE (KCC)

Kuajok Community College (KCC) for Human Resource Development and Extramural Studies is a concept and initiative of the ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É. In order to make the initiative a reality the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Apuruot Akec, proposed it to the former Caretaker Governor of Warrap State, Hon Akec Tong Aleu. The proposal was for the establishment of a community college at Kuajok in line with the strategic plan of the ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É in its commitment to widen access to higher quality education closer to the disadvantaged and those who need it most at the grassroots.

With the advent of independence to South Sudan and the subsequent relocation of the University to the South, it has now become imperative for the University as a national institution of higher learning to contribute to human resource development for progress in the country. In order to address the problem of lack of human resource development, the University has conceived a plan of extending learning opportunities to the states. It is to give disadvantaged young people a chance to improve their education for employment opportunities for self-reliance to raise their living standards.

The core concept of KCC is manpower development and this is precisely human resource development for self-reliance. In addition to focusing on livelihoods such as agriculture and livestock production, the focus will also be on peace and conflict resolution in a holistic approach through an extramural studies programme to promote harmony among communities. Strengths and weaknesses in communities will be identified with the aim of developing a strategic plan to resolve potential and real situations of conflict for peaceful co-existence and development.

Women economic empowerment, which is essential for the achievement of household food security in making hunger and poverty things of the past, is of special consideration and will be part of the curriculum. The role of leadership in communities and the extent of its effectiveness will be assessed to tap the potential of local leadership for development. Extramural studies will be resourced in reaching out with activities that foster harmony and unity among people. The potential for cooperatives development in the area will be explored for increases in production for economic growth and investment to improve living standards.

KCC is conceived as a vehicle for socio-economic development in the area. It is a concept which is people-focused. This means the community is central and will be an active participant and partner in shaping the College to address challenges that are perceived as impediments to development.
