About the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic)

Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Crisp was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic) in September 2025, at the invitation of the Vice-Chancellor and following Professor Jennie Shaw’s move to London.

Geoff has significant experience in the tertiary education sector, and his former appointments include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic (University of Canberra, 2019 – 2023), Pro Vice-Chancellor Education (UNSW, 2016 – 2018), Dean, Learning and Teaching (RMIT, 2011 – 2015), and Director, Centre for Learning and Professional Development (University of ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É, 2002 – 2011).  

Geoff was also a recipient of the Stephen Cole the Elder Prize (Excellence in Teaching) in 1999, the Stranks Medal for Chemical Education in 2003 from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and was awarded Australian Learning and Teaching Council Fellowships in 2006 and 2009.

Geoff completed his BSc (Honours, First Class) at the University of Queensland in 1977 and his PhD in Chemistry at the Research School of Chemistry at Australian National University in 1981. Geoff was awarded Emeritus status from the University of Canberra in 2024.

A keen amateur photographer and nature walker in his personal life, Geoff takes the opportunity to get out and travel as often as time permits.  He also sits on several external boards, including Whitecliffe Institute Creative Arts and Technology (also trades as The Fashion Institute), and external Chair of their Academic Board, and a member of the Higher Education Academic Council for NSW TAFE for their higher education degrees.
