Innovation in Motion: Strengthening Swiss-Australian Collaboration on Clean Energy and Mobility

OnÌý1 September 2025, theÌýInstitute for Sustainability, Energy and Resources (ISER)Ìýproudly participated inÌýInnovation in Motion, a flagship event celebrating Swiss excellence inÌýclean energy, advanced mobility, and deep technologies.
Hosted at theÌýPilatus Facility in ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É, the event was convened by theÌýSwiss Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Dr. Nikolas Stürchler, during his State visit to South Australia.
South Australia, with nearlyÌý70% renewable energy penetration, was a suitable location for the event. The state has earned global recognition as aÌýleader in sustainable energy developmentÌýand is currently bidding to hostÌýCOP31 in November 2026.
The event featured Swiss companies making tangible contributions to Australia’s clean mobility and energy landscape, including:
- PilatusÌý– providing aircraft for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
- SynhelionÌý– developing renewable aviation fuels.
- KyburzÌý– supplying electric vehicles to Australia Post.
- Endress+HauserÌý– advancing smart process engineering and automation.
In addition, theÌýETH Zurich Solar Car Racing TeamÌýshowcased their achievement of completing the Bridgestone World Solar ChallengeÌýfrom Darwin to ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É.
A roundtable discussionÌýon Swiss-Australian perspectives inÌýsustainability, mobility, and energy, was moderated byÌýDr. Daniel Rossetto. The session brought together leaders from academia and industry, includingÌýProfessor Gus Nathan (ISER Director),ÌýJoanna Kay (The Superpower Institute), andÌýTaylor McKertich (Endress+Hauser).
The discussion went beyond showcasing innovations, exploringÌýpractical measuresÌýto strengthen collaboration for developingÌýregulatory frameworksÌýto support innovation.ÌýThey also discussed designingÌýmarket incentivesÌýfor low-carbon technologies, and buildingÌýresearch-industry partnershipsÌýto accelerate adoption.
TheÌýInnovation in MotionÌýevent strengthenedÌýbilateral collaborationÌýacross research, industry, and government. It highlightedÌýpractical solutions, from technology demonstrations to policy incentives, that can accelerate decarbonisation. The event laid the foundation for future partnerships inÌýenergy transition, mobility, and deep tech.
ISER remains committed to advancing these efforts and looks forward to contributing toÌýshared solutions for a net-zero future.
