This week, we are highlighting how recognising social engineering tactics can protect your information. Phishing is designed to trick you into compromising sensitive information by hacking you!

This is commonly done by exploiting your trust or emotions.听

There are flags you can look out for. For example, attackers will often make their messages look urgent or official. By pausing and reviewing carefully, you can spot and stop a phishing attempt before it causes harm.听

Tips to help recognise social engineering:听

  • Suspect every message and consider the context of the communication.听听

  • Check the authenticity of the sender, watch out for misspellings and unusual addresses.听

  • Hover over links to see where they lead.听

  • Be cautious of urgent language, unexpected attachments, or requests for sensitive information.听

  • When in doubt, verify the sender or report to IT Service Desk.听

By staying alert to phishing red flags, you will reduce the chance of being 鈥human hacked鈥.听
